Sheron Gittens

I believe that our mental health cannot be separated from the contexts in which we live, learn, work, and care for others. Many of the people I work with are carrying multiple responsibilities at once—supporting family members, pursuing educational goals, navigating career transitions, managing caregiving roles, or trying to care for themselves while meeting the expectations of everyone around them. Many have learned to carry a great deal while feeling unseen in the process. Their lives often do not fit neatly into a single category, and their experiences cannot be fully understood through a single label or story.
I work with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, burnout, trauma, life transitions, relationship concerns, and challenges related to identity, belonging, and purpose. I have particular interest in supporting medical, graduate, and professional students; parenting students; caregivers; helping professionals; first-generation learners; and individuals navigating fertility and reproductive health concerns.

Drawing from backgrounds in social work, psychotherapy, education, and public health, I bring a holistic perspective that recognizes the ways our wellbeing is shaped by our relationships, communities, cultures, and life circumstances. Before becoming a therapist, I spent more than two decades working in educational settings across multiple countries, supporting individuals from diverse cultural, academic, and professional backgrounds. These experiences continue to shape my understanding of resilience, adaptation, and the many ways people build connection, find meaning, and move forward through life’s challenges.

My approach is collaborative, culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and grounded in evidence-based practices including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), mindfulness-based approaches, and strengths-based interventions. I believe healing begins when we move beyond the single story we tell about ourselves and make space for growth, self-compassion, and meaningful change. Together, we work to build insight, develop practical skills, and create meaningful, sustainable change.
